Biography
Eric Shane Bryan received his Ph.D. from Saint Louis University and is currently Associate Professor of English at Missouri University of Science and Technology, where he teaches courses on early British and world literature, mythology and folklore, the history of the English language, and medieval literature. During his time at Missouri S&T, Dr. Bryan has received nine teaching awards, the Faculty Excellence Award (2021), and the Faculty Research Award (2022).
Dr. Bryan’s research interests include Old Norse literature, Icelandic folklore, historical pragmatics, the history of English, and the Christianization of Scandinavia. He has received research grants from the Fulbright Foundation, the American-Scandinavian Foundation, and the University of Missouri Research Board. He recently saw the publication of two monographs, the first entitled Icelandic Folklore and the Cultural Memory of Religious Change, and his latest book, Discourse in Old Norse Literature, was published by Boydell & Brewer in 2021.
