Physical Mechanics
Physics 3201 is an introduction to theoretical (classical) mechanics for undergraduate students. In this class, we will review the Newtonian formulation of the mechanics first encountered in General Physics 1135 course, develop more abstract formulations of mechanics due to Lagrange and Hamilton, and study their applications to topics such as two-body problem, rigid body rotation, oscillatory motion and others.
On this page, you can find syllabus for the course, narrated PowerPoints of the lectures and homework.
The text for the course is Taylor, “Classical Mechanics”, additional help sessions are M, 2-4 pm (PHYS 202) and office hours are by appointment, or if my office door is open (PHYS 117) feel free to stop by.
