The Innovative Smart and Additive Manufacturing (ISAM) Laboratory is a research facility equipped with state-of-the-art commercial and in-house built equipment. It is designed for 3D printing of a wide range of materials, including metals, ceramics, polymers, biomaterials, and composite materials, integrated with artificial intelligence. Additionally, it facilitates process in-situ monitoring, thermal imaging, microstructure, and dimensional measurement, as well as characterization and mechanical testing.

Renishaw Laser Powder Bed Fusion(LPBF) Machine
The LPBF utilizes selective laser melting 3D printing technology to fabricate complex geometry metal product with 0.1 mm resolution in the building chamber of 10″ x 10″ x 12″ from steel, titanium, nickel, aluminum, and cobalt chrome.
Ceramic On-Demand Extrusion Machine
The Ceramic On-Demand Extrusion Machine was constructed in-house in order to fabricate complex parts from ceramics, ceramic/glass composites, and functionally graded ceramics.
Laser Foil Printing Machine
The Laser Foil Printing Machine was developed in-house to fabricate the amorphous microstructure and high-strength metal and metallic glass.
Ultra High Frame Rate Midwave Infrared Camera
The camera was capable of monitoring melting pool and ultra-fast cooling rate with over 100,000 Hz.
Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) Machine
This SLS machine is used for printing solid scaffolds, which are used for cell growth and bone regeneration.
In-House Design Extrusion 3D Bioprinter
This extrusion-based 3D bioprinting technique is used to fabricate new scaffolds suitable for bone regeneration and burn wound healing.
Tekna – Teksphero-15 Plasma Spheroidizer
The Tekna Teksphero-15 Plasma Spheroidizer is used to reshape powder particles into spherical shapes.
Automated Ball Indention – Universal Testing Machine
The Automated Ball Indention testing machine used for determining the tensile and fracture toughness of the tested material in a nondestructive manner.
Instron – 5969 Dual Column Test Frame
The Instron 5969 Dual Column Test Frame is a universal testing system that is used to perform tensile, flexure/bend, compression, peel, tear, shear, and cyclic tests. This machine is used in room and elevated temperatures at a force range of 0.02 Newtons to 50 Kilo-Newtons.
Sodick – VZ500LH Wire EDM Machine
The Sodick VZ500LH Wire EDM Machine is used to cut metal parts into specified shapes through the use of wire-based electric discharge machining.
Stratasys – Fortus 400mc Fused Deposition Modeling Machine
