Dr. Ming Leu’s Ph.D. student Tao Liu, was awarded first place in the 17th annual ISC poster presentation.
Twenty graduate students and one undergraduate student participated in the 17th annual Intelligent Systems Center (ISC) Poster Presentation on November 16 in the Havener Center. The poster presentation, funded by the Intelligent Systems Center, is held each year to offer students the opportunity to present their research results. The guest speaker for the awards ceremony was Dr. Kamal Khayat, Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation. Pictured to the right are the three ISC students who placed at the 2022 ISC Poster Presentation.
The winners and the names of their posters are:
- First place: Tao Liu, “In-Situ Infrared Thermographic Measurement of Powder Properties in Laser Powder Bed Fusion”
- Second place: Tazdik Patwary Plateau, “Multifunctional Flexible Carbon Nanofibers via Selective Laser Carbonization”
- Third place: Freddy Wu, “Design and Experiment of in-situ Monitoring of Thermal History in Directed Energy Deposition”

The winners’ advisors are Dr. Ming C. Leu, Keith and Pat Bailey Distinguished Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department; Dr.
Jonghyun Park, Associate Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, and Dr. Frank Liou, Michael and Joyce Bytnar Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department.
Each student was presented an award certificate from Dr. Frank Liou, ISC director, Dr. Ming Leu, ISC poster presentation chair, and Dr. Kamal Khayat. The first-place winner received a monetary award of $600, the second-place winner received a monetary award of $300, and the third-place winner received a monetary award of $150.
