Biography

Dr. Irina V. Ivliyeva, Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor, leads Missouri S&T’s Russian program offering courses at all levels of Russian language, literature, and culture. Ivliyeva joined Missouri S&T in 1997 after teaching for eight years at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI), Russia.

A recipient of numerous outstanding teaching and faculty excellence awards, she was named Missouri S&T Woman of the Year in 2012 and an Honorary Knight of St. Patrick in 2011. She served as chair of S&T’s Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) from June 2019 to July 2022.

Ivliyeva holds a Ph.D. in linguistics from the Vinogradov Russian Language Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, and a master’s degree in philology from the Lomonosov Moscow State University. Her research interests include Russian word formation synthesis, comparative semantics, web scraping and linguistic data visualization, high impact practices, innovative instruction, and mentoring in higher education.

Ivliyeva has authored three monographs and dozens of articles and book reviews appearing in linguistic journals. She has organized linguistic panels, served as panel chair and panel discussant, and delivered her papers at numerous professional regional, national, and international conferences. 

Irina Ivliyeva is an educator and academic leader with 35 years of experience in higher education. Over the course of her career, as a tenured professor, program lead, master mentor, senior assessor, and center director, with strong leadership skills,  she has focused on the promotion of inclusive learning environments in undergraduate and graduate education, the assessment of learning outcomes, the implementation of high-impact practices and signature assignments (e.g., study abroad, undergraduate research, graduate teaching assistant workshops, certification for online teaching),  the development and mentoring of faculty professionals, the support and development of administrative staff, and the promotion of the spirit of collaboration and collegiality wherever she has worked. Ivliyeva has collaboratively contributed to innovating the curriculum and implementing best practices to enhance equity and inclusion.
