Biography
Kelly Tate is a Teaching Professor in the Department of English and Technical Communication at Missouri University of Science and Technology. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Arkansas as well as a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan.
At S&T, Professor Tate teaches a variety of courses, including English 1120: Exposition and Argumentation, English 1222: American Literature II, as well as English 2172: Creative Nonfiction Writing and English 1170: Creative Writing. She teaches her courses in a variety of formats, including seated, blended, and online asynchronous.
With an interest in promoting well-being on campus, she serves as her department’s Well-Being Champion. Additionally, she is an advisor for the Creative Writing minor, which she co-designed.
She is the recipient of S&T’s College of Arts, Sciences, and Education’s Innovative Teaching Award for designing a well-being-based narrative unit as well as the Student Impact Award for adding great value to a student’s academic, personal, or professional trajectory. From the Office of the Provost, she has received three Faculty Achievement Awards for sustained excellence in teaching and service as well as the Faculty Teaching Award for excellence in teaching and teaching-related activities.
In addition to creative nonfiction and short story writing, Professor Tate enjoys photography, baking, reading, travel, and spending time with her husband, their son, and their long-eared dog.
