Teaching Methods and Approaches
Seeking to pursue my enthusiasm for teaching. I believe history has applications beyond its intrinsic value to those interested in it. History can be made interesting and useful to those whose focus of interest lies elsewhere by showing its inherent value as a guide, decision making tool, and a showcase for the human condition. In addition to showing us who we are by examining who we were, and honoring those who built the world we live in, we can use history as the material to teach critical thinking and communication skills.
Student Engagement
In order to accomplish this approach to history, I use a Socratic method of teaching, where we all learn more through discussion than just learning what is written in the history books.
