Dear friends and colleagues,
This year, Missouri S&T celebrates the five-year anniversary of a transformational gift from June and Fred Kummer. Kummer College was established on July 1, 2022.
In this short time, we’ve built a strong foundation that connects to the university’s North Star Goals while we shape a bright future for our college.
Over the past year, we’ve engaged faculty, staff, students and alumni in a series of strategic planning sessions. Together, we’ve defined our vision, mission, values and goals. I’m proud of the work, and Kummer College now has a roadmap that will help us form new task forces to implement the plan. At its heart are three goals grounded in the entrepreneurial mindset developed by the Kern Family Foundation.
These goals challenge us to make curiosity and innovation hallmarks of our transformational learning and research; create value and solve complex problems through an entrepreneurial mindset; and to connect and partner widely to foster economic development.
We already offer a broad set of courses, certificates and programs that educate our students, and our faculty conduct research to benefit society. These new goals, tactics and measurable targets will help us innovate and ensure that we are leaders in contextualization of STEM expertise. The context helps us define the best return on investment, whether involving sound profit, regulatory compliance, ethical implementation or societal impact.
I am deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and more excited about what comes next. Thank you for your continued support as we celebrate three years of progress in Kummer College.
Sincerely,
James Sterling, Ph.D.
Vice Provost and Founding Dean
