The Ozark Foundry Innovation Ecosystem
Today, we are growing the Ozark Foundry as a 21st century innovation ecosystem encompassing a network of advanced STEM industries, local services and businesses, educational institutions engaged in workforce development, government agencies and the Missouri University of Science and Technology that serves as the anchoring research-intensive R1 university with the accompanying technology development, venture capital and economic development infrastructure.
A 21st Century Foundry
S&T has a distinguished history since its launch in 1870 as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy. One example is the story of Harry Kessler, a 1924 graduate in metallurgy who had an extraordinarily successful career on two fronts. First, he was a consultant for dozens of foundries and was described by the New York Times as “the No. 1 foundry trouble-shooter in the nation.” He was also known for his work as a referee of over 5,000 boxing matches including two of Muhammed Ali’s world title bouts. This legacy translates to a 21st-Century Ozark Foundry where Missouri S&T, the Rolla community, researchers, regional corporate partners and financial stakeholders collaborate to evolve new relationships as we thrive. We develop, produce and commercialize novel technologies into viable ventures that form new elements in our innovation network.
