Casey Canfield (Assistant Professor, Engineering Management & Systems Engineering) and Kathleen Sheppard (Professor, History & Political Science) attended the PIT-UN Convening on October 12-13, 2023 in Boston, MA. This meeting brings together individuals and institutions from across the country who are part of the Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN).
Some key insights include:
- PIT-UN has been engaging with the National Science Foundation to include more public interest technology framing in their funding solicitations
- Public interest technology efforts are a great way to realize the land grant mission of our institution. We can become the public square! There is value in doing cooperative, translational work to do knowledge transfer (beyond technology transfer) to support our local community and the state of Missouri in general.
- To get the benefits of technology without the harms, PIT-thinkers need to be involved in the design as early as possible
We look forward to participating in the 2024 PIT-UN Summit in San Jose, CA.
