Biography

I am an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Missouri S&T, where my research explores the future of how humans access, interact with, and make sense of information. My work sits at the intersection of Information Retrieval (IR), Large Language Models (LLMs), and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), with the goal of designing intelligent systems that are not only efficient but also intuitive and contextually aware. I am particularly interested in building next-generation AI systems that bridge the gap between unstructured data and human understanding—making search more conversational, adaptive, and personalized. I lead the Intelligent Retrieval and Information Systems (IRIS) Group at Missouri S&T.

Prior to joining Missouri S&T, I was a Research Associate at the University of Edinburgh, where I worked in the Generalized Representation and Information Learning (GRILL) Lab, led by Turing AI Fellow Dr. Jeff Dalton. Our lab, recognized with an Amazon Alexa Prize award, focused on advancing neural IR and conversational AI. My time at GRILL spanned both the University of Glasgow—home to the world-renowned Glasgow IR Group—and the University of Edinburgh’s Institute for Language, Cognition, and Computation (ILCC), offering a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment at the forefront of IR research.

I completed my PhD in Computer Science at the University of New Hampshire as part of the TREMA Lab, under the guidance of Dr. Laura Dietz. There, I explored early foundations in machine learning, knowledge representation, and IR that continue to shape my work today.

As both a researcher and educator, I am driven by the mission to move beyond traditional search—to develop systems that can reason, explain, and adapt to users’ evolving information needs. I am excited about collaborating across disciplines and contributing to the broader goal of making AI more useful, responsible, and human-centric.

Important Notice

Please do not contact me for PhD positions or paid RA (Research Assistant) positions. I currently do not have funding and will not be able to reply to such emails.

I do not plan to hire more RAs or PhD students in the foreseeable future unless we secure a major grant.

However, if you are looking to gain research experience and work with us on a project that could lead to a research paper, please contact the PI; he would be happy to collaborate with you. Please note that these positions will be unpaid.

Thank you for your understanding.
