Research

Mission: Coupling laboratory and computational approaches, we study and apply biological systems for clean water, material, & energy production.

Vision: Understanding biological systems to engineer a sustainable future.

Current Projects

The Schroer lab is focused on identifying and optimizing biocatalysts, metabolites, and biomolecules for degrading contaminants and creating more sustainable mining processes. Our group and our collaborators are currently working on defluorination biochemistry, bioleaching, and bioflotation of course minerals. We use a variety of techniques across molecular and synthetic biology, analytical chemistry, and protein engineering.
