We love for every member of the team to get involved with the team through a number of events including design and fabrication meetings, social, events and our regular meetings. To ensure you get updated on all events, make sure to come to our general body meetings occuring Wednesdays at 8:15pm in Butler Carlton Hall, room 124.
Event Types
General Body Meetings
Our general body meetings are quick meetings as a place for announcements, bridge updates, and fun small events throughout the year. A few of the events which happen during general body meetings are our mini-bridge competition and christmas white elephant gift exchange.
Design Meetings
Design meetings typically happen on weekends in the fall semester. These are where the bridge design comes to life! We teach all members how to use our design softwares and work collaboratively to create the best design. We currently use AutoCad and SAP2000 to create and model our designs.
Fabrication Meetings
Fabrication meetings typically happen on weekends in the spring semester. Fabrication brings the design out of the models and into a physical bridge. Our team fabricates each and every member of the bridge and load tests the bridge after construction to be ready for competition in April. Some machines we use to fabricate every year are the manual mill and lathe, cold saw, angle grinder, and the team’s favorite mig welder.
Social Events
Not only do we work hard, we play hard. Events such as barbeques, the annual SDELC kickball tournament (2021 & 2023 champions), our annual Bridge-Giving (thanksgiving), and more, there’s something for everyone.
