Dr. Hu Yang has worked on chronic artery disease, or atherosclerosis research since 2009, and he is now in the final stages that must be completed prior to pursuing clinical trials. Dr. Hu Yang was recently awarded a patent for a nano-formulation he says could potentially be used as a treatment for the disease.

Dr. Hu Yang, S&T’s principal investigator for the project, Over the next five years, is expected to receive $1.25 million from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture’s program titled “From Learning to Leading: Cultivating the Next Generation of Diverse Food and Agriculture Professionals.”

Dr. Hu Yang who is pioneering new glaucoma treatments was recently awarded the National Institutes for Health’s R01 grant, which will provide his research team with $2.5 million in funding over the next five years.

On Thursday, Feb. 23, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Room 120 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall at S&T, Dr. Hu Yang will provide an overview of biomedical research activities and efforts ongoing at the university and discuss what this means for future students, faculty and alumni. He will also discuss the university’s plans for creating new degree programs in bio-engineering.
