Yanzhi Zhang

Professor of Mathematics, Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Biography

Dr. Yanzhi Zhang is a Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Missouri S&T. She joined Missouri S&T in 2010 as an assistant professor, following positions as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Florida State University and a Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore. She was promoted to associate professor in 2015 and full professor in 2022. Dr. Zhang holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore and a B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, complemented by a minor in Computer Science, from Chongqing University in China.

Dr. Zhang’s research interests lie at the intersection of differential and difference equations, scientific computing, and numerical analysis. Her work delves into Fractional Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) and nonlocal models, exploring phenomena such as anomalous diffusion and data-informed modeling for seismic waves. She also researches the development of machine learning algorithms and their applications, as well as the study of Bose-Einstein superfluids, superconductivity, and multiscale/multiphysics modeling and simulations. Her contributions to numerical dispersive PDEs are particularly noteworthy. Her scholarly works have been published in various professional journals.

Dr. Zhang’s research has garnered consistent support from the National Science Foundation, underscoring the significance and impact of her work. Among her accolades are the Faculty Excellence Award from Missouri S&T, the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award from Chongqing University, and a Scholarship for Excellence in Mathematical Study.
