Biography

Dr. Dave Bayless, (BSME ’87, S&T) is the Chair of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at Missouri S&T, where his research focused on energy and environmental technology creation. He has been principal investigator for over $22 million in externally funded research, holds several patents, and over 60 peer-reviewed publications in the fields of pollution control and energy conversion.

Dr. Bayless formerly worked for American Electric Power and was an officer in the United States Navy, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri and Ohio. He is a co-founder of ECO2Capture Inc., a technology startup company launched from his intellectual property.

He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. He was the recipient of the 2016 Ohio Society of Professional Engineer’s Outstanding Engineering Educator for the State of Ohio. With Dr. Greg Kremer, he started the Energy Engineering degree program (now ABET accredited) in the Russ College of Engineering at Ohio University. He was the founding Chair of ASEE’s Engineering Leadership Development Division.

Research Interests

Energy conversions, particulate-laden and multiphase fluid mechanics, air pollution control, carbon recycling and wastewater remediation.
