My Teaching Philosophy

Dr. Hong is passionate and patient about working with students both inside and outside the classroom. As a teacher, stimulating students’ interest and motivating the students to go deeper and deeper in mathematics are my crucial ideas in creating a successful studying environment.

Fall 2025 Courses

Math 3304 Section 101-Elementary Differential Equations

1. Solve homogeneous and nonhomogeneous constant-coefficient linear ordinary differential equations by various methods, including the Laplace Transform

2. Use differential equations to model various physical systems

3. Solve systems of first-order linear differential equations using matrix methods

  • Textbook:  This is an Auto-Access course. Your MyLab Math access will give you access to the textbook: Fundamentals of Differential Equations, 9th edition, Nagle, Saff, Snider, Pearson, 2018.

Math 5601-Introduction to Numerical Analysis

Understanding the construction and theory of the numerical methods for solving the nonlinear equations, linear equation system, numerical approximation, numerical differentiation, and numerical ODEs. Being able to code and run numerical tests for all these numerical methods.

  • Textbook: Classical and Modern Numerical Analysis: Theory, Methods and Practice by A. S. Ackleh, E. J. Allen, R. B. Kearfott and P. Seshaiyer, CRC Press, Boca Raton, FL, 2010.
