Mormile convened a panel of previous Alice Evans Award recipients as part of the American Society for Microbiology Subcommittee on the Status of Women in Microbiology’s reception at the Microbe Meeting held in Houston, Texas. Each provided advice for those that participated in the reception. It was an honor to be among these women who have made significant contributions to the field of microbiology. Fall Break 2022

Mormile took four members of the Science Sub-Team of the Mars Rover Design Team (Mercedes Lane, Ashley Harkins, Nhien Nguyen, and Anna Crook) to Utah to investigate the Great Salt Lake and Hanksville (where the University Rover Challenge is held) to develop a good understanding of the geology and biology of the area. We met with Dr. Bonnie Baxter, Director of the Great Salt Lake Institute and Professor at Westminster College. While at the Great Salt Lake, Utah PBS filmed our interactions. Here is a link to the resulting segment in PBS show “This is Utah” that shows us in the field. Be sure to click on the “Tipping Point” to see Mormile and the members from the MRDT.
