Construction Going Strong at New Protoplex Location

Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is excited to announce great progress in the construction of the Missouri Protoplex building. The Protoplex is expected to be completed by early 2026.

The Missouri Protoplex will span 117,000 square feet and is situated on a 15-acre site north of the interstate in Rolla, MO. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as the cornerstone of Missouri S&T’s planned manufacturing technology and innovation campus.

The Protoplex is designed to foster collaboration between industry and academia, providing shared spaces equipped with cutting-edge technology. It will house both traditional lab suites and large, secure high-bay manufacturing labs, promoting rapid prototyping, interdisciplinary communication, and safety.

Missouri S&T is proud to collaborate with other educational institutions, manufacturing businesses, and industry associations to form a manufacturing ecosystem. The Protoplex, along with this ecosystem, will educate the current and future workforce, have a manufacturing space with cutting-edge equipment for companies of all sizes, and serve as a resource for advanced manufacturing expertise.

The Protoplex will also play a vital role in the local community. It will host workshops and seminars for local businesses and entrepreneurs, offer educational programs and tours for schools and community groups, and encourage community involvement in innovation and manufacturing initiatives.

The Missouri Protoplex aims to enhance workforce competencies, drive economic development, and significantly contribute to the state’s manufacturing GDP. This dynamic facility is poised to become a hub of innovation and growth for the region.
