Dr. Wang received his bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics from Fudan University and his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Indiana University - Bloomington. He obtained his postdoctoral training as a postdoctoral fellow/Courant Instructor at the Courant Institute before joining Iowa State University, where he was promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure. He later moved to Florida State University in the early 2000s, where he held the position of Tenured Professor in the Department of Mathematics. In 2017, Dr. Wang returned to his ancestral land, becoming a Distinguished Professor at his alma mater and a Chair Professor at Southern University of Science and Technology. In late 2022, he joined MST as the inaugural Havener Endowed Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Throughout his career, he has also gained administrative experience, serving as the Chair of the Department of Mathematics at both Florida State University and Southern University of Science and Technology.
Currently, Dr. Wang's research focuses on modern applied mathematics, with special emphasis on problems related to fluid dynamics, groundwater research, geophysical fluid dynamics, turbulence, and climate change. He effectively employs tools from Partial Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, Stochastic Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Scientific Computing, and Machine Learning in his research. His work stands out for its combination of rigorous mathematics and real-world physical applications. Over the years, Dr. Wang has been awarded more than a dozen grants from external funding agencies such as the US National Science Foundation and the National Natural Science Foundation of China to support his research efforts. Besides a research monograph published by Cambridge University Press, he has also published in journals such as Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics and Journal of Fluid Mechanics. Additionally, he serves on the editorial boards of five international mathematics journals.
