Dr. Davide Viganò

Assistant Professor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Director, Aerodynamics Research Laboratory

Biography

Dr. Davide Viganò has received both his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano in Italy, he then continued his studies in the U.S. where he obtained a Ph.D. in the same field from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2019. He has continued his research work as Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the same university. Dr. Viganò is now an Assistant Professor at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

His research, primarily experimental, focuses on fundamental investigations of mixing in turbulent supersonic flows, and its application to hypersonic air-breathing propulsion, as well as Arc-Heated wind tunnels, and its related intrusive instrumentation, development. Dr. Viganò has worked on projects funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and the Department Of Energy (DOE). Dr. Viganò is a member of the AIAA Hypersonic Technologies And Space Planes (HyTASP) Technical Committee, where he serves in the Communication Sub-Committee. Dr. Viganò has been co-awarded for the Hypersonics best conference paper in 2020.

Research Interests

High-speed experimental aerodynamics, hypersonic and high-enthalpy flows, compressible turbulence, supersonic vortex dynamics, laser-based flow diagnostics, ground facilities development.
